2009 World Series of Poker Europe Won by a Brit

The began last September 18 at the Empire Casino, London and, in fact, saw its biggest number of participants in its three-year history, having had 608 entrants.  The Main Event, which was to be a £1,000 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'Em, started last Monday, September 21, for a two-day event.

Aside from seeing the biggest number of participants, this year also marks the first year that a Brit won a World Series of Poker Europe title championship, and he is JP Kelly.

On JP Kelly

This year seems to be a very good year, indeed, for the young gentleman as the is his second gold , having received his first one only three months ago on the 11th of June 2009 in Las Vegas.  He won his first when he landed first place on the $1,500 Buy-In Pot-Limit Texas Holde'Em event.  In that event, he earned $194,434.

All in all, it is being said that his poker earnings have reached to nearly a million dollars since he decided to play professional poker.

The 2009

At the final table, Fabien Dunlop was the lead chip leader until both Dunlop and Kelly went heads-up.  It took nearly an hour of heads-up match-up game between the two, at which point Dunlop was leading by a 3:1 chip lead ratio.  Dunlop's luck left him when he lost the lead by doubling up Kelly and, most especially, when he fell for Kelly's bluff and decided to move all-in and walked straight into Kelly's flopped straight.

This move earned him not only the title of the 2009 and a huge prize money but also the title as the first British who won the in his home turf.
