Be Wary of Deceitful Bonuses

With recession creeping up on every corner, you really have to be wary in choosing the online casino where you will be playing at.  But because many players first look at the bonuses being offered by the casinos before they register, they oftentimes get hoodwinked into signing up only to find out that the requirements needed to get a hold of the promised bonus are much to steep.

One of the casinos that offer a deceitful signup bonus is the Full Tilt .

100% Match-Up or $100 Signup Bonus

It really does sound good to hear that when you deposit your $100 in Full Tilt , you get to receive $100 as a signup bonus in return, right?  Not if you did not read Full Tilt 's fine print first.

Of course, you will receive your 100% match-up bonus that Full Tilt promises its new members, but what they did not tell you in large print is that you are going to get it incrementally.  Aside from this, the site has also failed to mention in large print that you still have to play several hands before you get your hands on your signup bonus. Are Poker Books Worth The Read

Poker players learn how to play through different ways.  Some learn early in life by watching the friendly Saturday night game at their home.   Some play a number of hours and days on free Internet sites for play money.  Players that are use to learning a subject by reading about it are likely to buy books on poker.

The quantity of books on poker has grown like mushrooms after a warm night of rain.  Doyle Brunson's book started the fad of big time players writing books on the subject.  Brunson's book was a bible of how to play and made many bad players better than average.  Barry Greenstein's book has thoughtful ideas on how to play in a logical manner that many would consider tight play of a hand.

Many players could not write a book about playing as they are a little crazy in their play and that would be hard to emulate.

A relatively new and inexperienced player would be wise to read any book on starting hand values with their ranking among hands.  [Read][more][...]

With spring just around the corner, live poker rooms and casinos are waiting for the players that have been holed up at home to come out and play.

With spring just around the corner, live poker rooms and casinos are waiting for the players that have been holed up at home to come out and play.  The players have had a belly full of the bad weather and being stuck playing in front of a computer are getting restless and ready to play in a live game.  The difference in a live game and one on a poker screen are like honey is to vinegar.  There is no comparison for players that like the feel of a real table and reading players that is part of poker in a live game.  The winter months have kept them stuck playing in the virtual world where there is no sound or smell or anything remotely like the game over a felt table.

Each year as the snow melts these computer poker players come out to see if the real game of poker still exists in a real poker room or a real casino.  As they soon learn, the real game is alive and well.  The poker room managers have been waiting for winter to unleash their missing players that were captives of the computer world.  [Read][more][...]

Poker Stories Bad Beats Calls of Courage

Poker playing and the history of poker go hand-in-hand.  Poker stories are generated every day somewhere in the world.  The story could come from a major tournament or from a weekly home game.  Many stories are about a bad beat or a miracle draw that a player pulled off or was the hapless victim of the luck of the deal. Poker stories are part and parcel of playing the game. The variables that can happen in any given hand can give such unlikely results that players can have the toes curled with the deal of a card.  Later when discussing the events of the game the players involved, in such a hand, will tell stories that are amazing in their dissimilarity.  Unless you were a witness to the hand in question you would not realize that they were discussing the same hand.  It comes down to a mater of perspective from the winner or the loser of the hand.

Bad Beats are constant grist for the mill as they are a remembered hurt.  The winner may well forget the incident.  The loser may remember the hand the rest of their life. [Read][more][...]

Distinctive Names for Poker Hands

Poker is a game of many variables and climatic situations.  Players have developed a group of distinctive names for many starting hands in Holdem that are obvious or in some cases need a certain explanation.

A pair of Aces has for a long time been known as Pocket Rockets or Bullets.  But the hand 10-2 is not as well known unless you are a follower of the great poker player, Doyle Brunson.  Doyle won two WSOP tournaments in a row holding the same starting hand.  His two hands are now known as a Brunson, the 10-2.

Some starting hands have taken a name from the movies, TV shows or real people.  A pair of Kings is known as King Kong or Cowboys.  A pair of eights is known as Snowmen.  King Queen is known as a Marriage.  A pair of sixes is known as Route 66 after the TV show.  A pair of sevens is known as Sunset Strip.  A pair of Jacks is known as Fishhooks or Hooks.  Two tens are known as Dimes.  A pair of fives is known as Speed Limit.  A pair of twos is known as Ducks. What Poker Games do online Casinos Offer

A new player may well wonder what games are offered online.

The obvious answer is they all offer Holdem in both limit and no-limit games.

This form of poker is without a doubt the most popular game there is at any online casino.  The game is numerous in cash games and the number of tournaments offered online each week is in outstanding numbers.  One site out of the many online can have well over one hundred or more tournaments.

The next poker version that gets a lot of play is Omaha HiLo.  This two winners in a pot game can have huge pots in small limit games, as the two winners possibility makes players gamble on their hands.  Players who are just learning this game are at a big disadvantage when they play against experienced players.

New players do not know how to value their hand and overplay hands that are really not that good in Omaha.  Holdem players are real pigeons in Omaha, as winning Holdem hands are not of high value in Omaha.  [Read][more][...]

Poker and Books

Pokers has arrived as a study from books and not just from the play in dark smoke filled rooms in the back of a Honky Tonk.  Many of the old time players that learned that way have now written great books on how to play better poker.  The great Doyle Brunson comes to mind immediately as his books have been the bible for many of the newer poker pros that are seen on TV.  Since then, many of the big stars of today have taken the time to put into words their opinion on what works to make a player a winner.  The Internet has given many young players the needed number of real hands in real time to give them actual playing experience.  In the old days of only playing in live games, this hand and playing time experience only came from hours of real time play.

Learning the math and the way to play hands is well worth the time-spent reading.   Now, any player can find many solid books on the various poker games including both cash games and tournaments.  This time spent is cheaper than learning by losing in situations you may have avoided if you had done the reading.  This will still happen, but cutting these expensive lessons to a minimum by reading is a far cheaper way to learn.
