Many poker fans are now talking about the recent ending of the Asian Poker Tour. The said tournament was a 12-day event held at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau, and it has seen many poker pros who have signed up for the APT. The number of registrants was up from last year's 257. Today, the APT had seen 326 registrants who competed for the prize money.
Up from Last Year
As stated above, the number of poker players who registered at the APT increased from 2008's 257 to 326. The buy-in fee for the Asian Poker Tour's main event was HK $34,000, and the organization of the tournament was pleased with the turnout, especially since they have feared a low number due to the current economic problems. Truth to tell, APT was only anticipating about 300 registrants for the main event but was very pleased at the outcome since more than the projected number has registered. CEO of APT, Chris Parker, remarked that their decision to make this a 12-day event was proven correct because of the turnout. He also commented that the said event saw a bigger number of Asian participants, compared to last year's, and APT took this as an encouraging sign for the growth of APT.

The NBC Heads Up Championship has eliminated more than half the field. Some of the big name players have been turned out and some are still alive and playing. The Miracle player Blandino Gines was eliminated the first day by Barry Greenstein and now Barry has joined him on the sidelines. Others are still in the fight like the well-known Daniel Negreanu. Skill is at a premium, but getting some good cards at the right time will go a long way. The interesting story about this tournament is it will not be aired on TV until April of 2009. By then it will be over and the new champion will be known for over a month.
Another news bit is the coverage of the latest lady poker player in the pro ranks doing so well playing in the tournaments and getting an offer to be in the Swimsuit Edition of Sports Illustrated. Vanessa Rousso is hot in more ways than one as a poker player, still alive in the Heads Up Championship, as a very nice looking woman and as a Law Student at the University of Miami. This lady has it all going in the right direction. That is a lot of activity going on in one person's life male or female. [Read][more][...]

What is the major difference between a ring or cash game and a tournament in the game of Holdem? The games are technically played the same and the card values are the same, so what is different in the games. The one difference is the player can rebuy as long as they want and never be forced out of the game even if all the chips in the present stack are lost. When the stack is lost in a tournament, the player is knocked out of the game permanently. The fear of being knocked out of the game can be a determining factor on whether a player will call or raise or not.
Online you see a great many all in bets as the game is played with a great deal of pressure. In live tournaments the online players play the same and the old timers took a while to get use to the pressure these young online players brought to the game. They still do not fold if they think they have the winner, no matter what is bet. However the fear of getting knocked from the tournament is an ally in the betting sequence. [Read][more][...]

If a player is looking for entry help in a tournament, there are two ways to get this help. The player can enter a small entry fee satellite and win it, thereby getting the entry in the tournament. The other way is to pay the full entry fee straight up and guarantee that you will get to play. This is the problem if the player cannot come up with the full fee. Many players can go to their friends and sell percentages of themselves for the tournament. But what if that does not work out.
The answer could be a website called ChipMeUp and offer to sell a percentage to people who want to invest in a good player for a big tournament. This is an interesting way to get the fee for a big tournament and not bother your friends.
Many name players have used this fee service to get money for a specific tournament.
If the player does well in the tournament, the investors get their money back with a very decent return. [Read][more][...]

This 2009 season first that will appear on Sunday Night is a long awaited event by many avid poker players who enjoy the skill and daring players exhibit on this show. Rumors are about that the stakes to sit down are going to be higher and this means that there will be some outrageously major size pots. With more money in the game the temptation on solid hands will be to wager a good deal more to get as much profit out of the hand as is possible. Two big hands that come together in the same pot will cause fireworks and the winner will smile and the loser will have to suck it up and play on. Since this is the players' money the hurt will be real in terms of losing their own money and also doing poorly on the show. Every player at this game has an ego to prove in real money that they are as good or better than any other player at the table. The money score will tell the tale that is for sure. Some of these players can easily afford the loss they may endure, but some are not as well off as the others. [Read][more][...]
