The World Championship of Online Poker or WCOOP has just recently ended last Monday, 21st of September 2009. The said event started last week, with all the good tourneys seen this weekend.
It can be said that the WCOOP was, indeed, a huge success as online poker players from all over the world participated in this major poker series. Who can really ignore the huge guaranteed prize pool? And who does not want to compete for the money against some of the best that the poker world has to offer?
Let us take a quick recap of the event's major highlights.
It was a $215 Buy-In No Limit Texas Hold'Em event that comprised the WCOOP's Event 43. The guaranteed prize pool for this event was a whopping $1.8 million, and because of the huge prize that was at stake, this event saw about 9,220 players. The man who outlasted them all and came out the winner was Bertrand Grospellier who goes by the name of «ElkY» online. Grosspellier, one of the PokerStars pros, took home the prize money of $263,000 and the title champion of WCOOP's Event 43.
In the WCOOP's Event 44, 103 players competed for their share of the $1M guaranteed prize pool by playing at a $10,300 Buy-In H.O.R.S.E. High Roller Tourney. As usual, out of these many players, 14% of them came from PokerStars' pro. Contestants of the said event got to compete against big names in the poker world like Daniel Negreanu and Greg Raymer. Other PokerStars pros that competed in the Event 44 were Chris Moneymaker and Barry Greenstein as well as Joe Hachem. Again, Bertrand Grospellier also competed at the Event 44, but the person who took home the prize as well as the title was Daniel Kelly, the man known as «djk123» in the online poker world. It clearly took a lot of skill and huge amounts of luck to be able to outlast men of this caliber.
Event 45 — The Main Event of WCOOP
As for the main event, it was a $5,200 Buy-In No Limit Texas Hold'Em event. This main event started out with 2,144 players, a huge number especially since the guaranteed prize pool that is up for grabs is a massive $10.7 million, and only those that were included in the top 306 will be benefiting from the guaranteed prize pool. The WCOOP Main Event was won by Ukrainian Yevgeniy Timoshenko, whose screen name is «Jovial Gent.» His prize money for the main event was a big $1.7 million.
