French online players have much to celebrate this year. One, legalization of online sports betting in France is imminent. And two, there is also the imminent legalization of online poker. With this, they can now play and enjoy their favorite Texas Hold'Em games online without fearing the ramifications and the consequences.
The Good News
As stated above, French punters can now start betting on their favorite teams come the summer, as the French market opens to online sports betting. But it seems like Christmas came way too early for them as the online players received more good news.
French lawmakers have just recently given its approval to pass a bill that will make it legal for online players to play online poker. With the legalization and legitimization of online poker in France, they can now freely enjoy the game of poker, but first, it will be necessary for them though to close their current account with their respective online poker rooms for six months before they are allowed to register and sign up once more at the legal online poker rooms.
Big Business for Online Poker Operators
An estimated number of about 1,200 online poker operators can now submit their applications to get their licenses so that they can operate online poker rooms legally and legitimately once the law is put in place.
This will not only mean big business for the online poker operators, but it will also mean a bigger revenue for the French government as they collect the taxes imposed on these online poker rooms.
The legalization and the legitimization of online poker rooms in France will mean a big step for the game of poker, especially since this game as well as any other form of gambling has been totally banned by the Russian Government in their country, except in areas that they deemed it legal, when they passed Draconian measures to prohibit gambling.
United States of America Thawing Against Online Poker
The Russian government might just have passed extremely strict rules to outlaw gambling in their territory, but it seems like the USA is thawing when it comes to the laws they have imposed to ban online poker. This was exemplified by the recent decision of a Southern Carolina judge to reverse the ruling made against five poker players who were found guilty of having played illegal Texas Hold'Em poker in an illegal house of gambling. The judge ruled in favor of them and reversed the conviction, saying that poker is a game of skill, not of chance.
This is two big steps for the game of poker, and we hope that the game will soon be seen as a game based on skill, not on luck.
