Poker Sites and Poker Software

One of the problems that not only poker sites face but its players as well is the use of banned poker softwares which increases the advantage of dishonest players against honest players, but it cannot be denied that poker sites cannot truly monitor the players using them and kick them out of their sites, and it is also a fact that many players use these kind of softwares and get away with it.  For now, the only thing that they can do is to say that these poker softwares are not to be used while playing at their site.

Turning the Other Cheek

Yes, using poker softwares like Poker-Edge or utilizing the services of sites like Official Poker Rankings or Sharkscope may be prohibited when playing at a poker site, but as stated above, poker sites really cannot monitor all the sneaky players that use them, so what they usually do is to turn the other cheek.

This then puts the honest players at a big disadvantage because their opponents are using it against him.  The honest player has no way to tell if his opponent is using Poker-Edge and already knows quite a nice bit of information about his poker game histories.  Furthermore, how can he know that his opponent did not buy any information about his hand history from hand history resellers?

Let us admit it, all poker players want to win for the money and the glory, and for the honest poker players who were only following the rules and policies of a poker site, he really is at a big disadvantage when he plays against sneaky players who have an edge over him.

Finding a Solution, Instead of Ignoring It

The most realistic thing that these poker sites should do is to not ignore the blatant use of these poker softwares but to address the issue and allow these types of poker software to be used during their games.  It makes all players equal, and the game will then be a fair game as all players are given the advantage of using something to beat his opponents, if he knows how to use it right, that is.

If poker sites are still not comfortable with the above-mentioned solution, then they could easily try what the Cake Poker Network is doing.  They should not show the complete hand histories of the player's opponents, and furthermore, they should give the players the advantage of changing their screen names at least once weekly.

This way, the poker site gets to protect their players and, at the same time, give each and every one of them a clean poker game.
