PokerStars to Become One of the Sponsors of Rugby Union

PokerStars is going to bring its name out of the poker world as it becomes one of the sponsors of the English National Rugby Football Union.

Although this very popular poker site has been the sponsor of many sporting events like football teams and racing teams, it seems that there really is no stopping PokerStars as it offers sponsorship to the Rugby Union, which is bound to be a good step for both industries.

The Deal

The English Rugby Football Union is the umbrella group of the country's national rugby team, and the deal between them is bound to be a win-win deal.

For two years, PokerStars will serve as the RFU's online gaming partner, and this deal gives them the right to sell tickets as well as receive any merchandising rights.  Another benefit that PokerStars will receive from this partnership is that the site will also increase its popularity in Britain, especially since the site is going to be advertised during matches.  PokerStars wants to become known not only in the Internet gaming world, especially in online poker, but in other sporting circles as well, and this will prove to be a good step for them.  Furthermore, being the sponsor of the RFU, this world-famous poker site gets to become a member of a very prominent sponsoring circle, the likes of which include Nike and O2.

And in return, the RFU is also going to receive major exposure and attract the interest of American players, especially since little is known about the game in the USA.  By making PokerStars their sponsor, the association is hoping to increase its popularity internationally as well as bring their game to other parts of the globe.

Celebrating the Success of the Sponsorship

To celebrate the success of becoming the sponsor of the RFU as well as to start promoting the association, PokerStars celebrated in a big way.

PokerStars is offering a signup bonus that amounts to as much as $600 to new members, which is roughly the equivalent of £400.  This cash bonus can be used by its new members to play poker for free.  PokerStars is also holding tournaments at their online poker rooms, and one of the prizes includes free tickets to upcoming events of the RFU this November in countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina.

If all goes well between these two very different industries, then we can expect that this two-year relationship will last for more years to come.
