December 1 might mean the start of the Yuletide season, but for some, this means the start of the implementation of the financial rules to put in force the prohibition on online gambling.
This implementation is fast approaching, and US Lawmakers are asking the regulators to delay this by about a year.
Reasons Set Forth
The reasons set forth by the US lawmakers are very valid. For one, pushing for the implementation of the UIGEA on December 1, 2009 will put an undue burden on an already-strained financial situation, especially during the recession which is already creating such havoc in the economy. Advertisements are a great way to get your company's name out in the market and attract more potential customers or, in the case of online casinos, players. This is one surefire way of getting known outside its niche, and advertising can definitely increase once revenues. But one ad in particular caught the attention of many and earned their annoyance and, for those who are against gambling in any form, anger.
The BetFair Ad
Maybe it was not intentional or maybe it was, but I bet nobody will tell and nobody is surely going to admit to the «ad fiasco» that BetFair created. Their ad featured a young girl, and its tagline said, «Online experience is measured in games, not years. Join the new breed. Annette_15.» [Read][more...]

Before, casino gamblers flock to land-based casinos to take part in major tournaments, but with the proliferation of online casinos and the fact that many gamblers are now favoring online casino games, it can then be said that the real action is in these online casino game tournaments, not in land-based casinos.
But what do the online tournaments offer that land-based casinos cannot?
More Tournament Variety
One of the things that attract many gamblers to participate in online tournaments is the fact that there are more tournament varieties online than in land-based casinos, so you are definitely given the option to choose the tournament you want based on the budget and the skills that you have. When a player is online at a casino that offers both poker and other casino games, the temptation is to try a few slot spins or some Baccarat. This is okay if the player really only risks a very small percentage of his stake. The problem is these games can be very easy to lose sight of playing poker and actually can hook some players. You read about poker pros that win easily at poker and then lose large amounts on table games or sports. This is the problem with the other forms of gambling on the net. The player has no edge at all like they do in poker and it catches up quickly when the losing streak sets in. Do not bet on games with serious money where you have no edge. This should be all good poker players' commitment to keeping their poker stake together.
A decent poker stake will keep the player in the game and they can weather the bad beats and the run of crappy cards and poor flops. This is true because a solid poker player should be able to wait until the hands turn around and give them a chance at some larger pots. If the stake has been decimated by table games, this could endanger the poker playing also. [Read][more...]

A new online poker player may well wonder what games are offered online.
The obvious answer is they all offer Holdem in both limit and no-limit games.
This form of poker is without a doubt the most popular game there is at any online casino. The game is numerous in cash games and the number of tournaments offered online each week is in outstanding numbers. One site out of the many online can have well over one hundred or more tournaments.
The next poker version that gets a lot of play is Omaha HiLo. This two winners in a pot game can have huge pots in small limit games, as the two winners possibility makes players gamble on their hands. Players who are just learning this game are at a big disadvantage when they play against experienced players.
New players do not know how to value their hand and overplay hands that are really not that good in Omaha. Holdem players are real pigeons in Omaha, as winning Holdem hands are not of high value in Omaha. [Read][more...]
WTO and Repeal of the AIGEA Will Bring Pressure to Rid This Prohibition

Europe is considering bringing a claim under the WTO against the USA for hurting their online casinos. The AIGEA passage forced many online casinos to prohibit US players from playing on their sites. Europe has long threatened to do something about this economic threat to their online casinos. There is strong sentiment that now is the time to bring such a filing. This attack was already carried out earlier by some of the Caribbean Islands with online csinos and won by them against the USA.
The Congressman Barney Frank has already stated he will bring a bill to the floor to repeal the AIGEA and the mood with the new Congress and the need for money may make this happen. The online casino industry has already stated that it is willing to pay billions in taxes to get American players back online.
This poorly designed law that was added in the middle of the night in 2006 is an absolute joke. Some hidden agendas were really behind the banking law and had nothing to do with protecting the youth of America as stated. The protection was found to be racing interest, gaming and gaming on Indian land. The proof is in the sizeable campaign contributions that were reported by the leaders who got the bill passed in the middle of the night. [Read][more...]

The courts in very recent cases are coming down on the side of poker is a skill game and the player's skill will make a difference over time. Consistent poker winners are very skillful and do not just depend on luck to win. These players want to take as much of the gamble out of a played hand as possible. By doing this they let the poor player depend on luck to win and they have the edge in the game. Like casinos know, having the edge over time will make you a winner. The more skilled the player, will lead to more winning sessions.
The comedian Steve Martin tells a great poker story. When he was still playing online he decided to quit playing one night and experienced an Ambien event. He took the sleeping pill and continued to play. When he awoke in the morning, he checked his poker account. He discovered that he had $1500 dollars in his account. He remembered only having $500 in his account when he took the pill. [Read][more...]
