September 3 Marks the Start of the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker

Yesterday, September 3, 2009, was officially the start of the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker, which is being held by PokerStars.  PokerStars is considered to be the biggest and the best online poker site in the Internet, and as such, you can expect popular names in the poker world vying for the chance to win at one of the world's biggest prize pools.

The 2009 World Championship of Online Poker

As stated above, PokerStars is going to host the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker, and there will be a total of 45 tournaments, the final table included.  The said event started yesterday, September 3, and will end on September 20.

The initial tournament asks that each contestant put up a $215 buy-in fee to be able to get a seat in the NL Hold'Em Six-Max Event.  The buy-in fee might be a bit heavy for some, but the huge $1.25 million dollars of guaranteed prize pool more than makes up for it.  As for the Main Event which will be on the 20th of September, the buy-in fee might be a whopping $5,200 to get a seat in the No Limit Texas Hold'Em Final Table, but you also get the chance to win your share of the huge guaranteed prizes pool of $10 million dollars!

But, of course, there are satellite tournaments whose buy-in fees are as low as $1 at the PokerStars, and if you enter and win in one, you just might win a seat at one of the 45 tournaments of the 2009 WCOOP.

All in all, the 2009 WCOOP is bound to be one of the hottest poker series this year with a guaranteed prize pool totaling to $40 million dollars.

In an answer to 's Face the Ace, a poker series by the said poker site in cooperation with NBC, PokerStars has made known to the public that it is going to show its own poker series, which will be shown on Fox.  This is a show they call PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge.

A Quick View on PokerStars' Million Dollar Challenge

The plot of the series is simple enough where qualifiers to the poker series get to receive coaching lessons from Daniel Negreanu as the qualifier battles it out with some of the top poker players of Team PokerStars, some of which are Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer.  Those who have qualified to get into the final event will attempt to beat his poker coach, Negreanu himself, the only pro poker player who is going to stand between the qualifier and the million dollars.
