Many poker fans are now talking about the recent ending of the Asian Poker Tour. The said tournament was a 12-day event held at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau, and it has seen many poker pros who have signed up for the APT. The number of registrants was up from last year's 257. Today, the APT had seen 326 registrants who competed for the prize money.
Up from Last Year
As stated above, the number of poker players who registered at the APT increased from 2008's 257 to 326. The buy-in fee for the Asian Poker Tour's main event was HK $34,000, and the organization of the tournament was pleased with the turnout, especially since they have feared a low number due to the current economic problems. Truth to tell, APT was only anticipating about 300 registrants for the main event but was very pleased at the outcome since more than the projected number has registered. CEO of APT, Chris Parker, remarked that their decision to make this a 12-day event was proven correct because of the turnout. He also commented that the said event saw a bigger number of Asian participants, compared to last year's, and APT took this as an encouraging sign for the growth of APT.
The Champion of 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau Main Event
The man who won the championship of the APT Main Event in Macau came from Renne, Frances, Adrien Allain who is also recognized in the online poker world as zlatan35. He got a seat into the APT via a $5 buy-in fee for a tournament at the PKR. The highest poker cash that he had won before entering and bagging the title of 2009 APT champion was $8,000, and in this major poker tournament, he had won a huge $3.05 million HK dollars. Converted to US dollars at its current exchange rate, this has netted him a big $400,000.
His last opponent at the APT had been Inwook Choi, a player from Korea, and Allain beat Choi's final hand of A-Q with an A-3, after the latter had spiked a 3 on the flop. Choi, the second placer of the successful Asian Poker Tour, won HK $1.660,000.
The third place goes to J.C. Tran, a player from the United States, who took home HK $910,510. David Steicke from Hong Kong bagged the fourth place and won HK $708,300, while Chris Chau, also from Hong Kong, got into the fifth place. Chau got to take home the prize money of HK $506,000.
