The Fighter Gus Hansen New London Tournaments Mish Mash News

the poker pro, who never saw a starting hand he could not try to play, was the loser in an exhibition fight.  He staged a three round event with his friend Theo Jorgensen who is also a poker pro.  The panel of boxing judges awarded the fight to Theo on points.  Both fighters wore boxing headgear to protect their poker brains.  The fight was held in Copenhagen, Denmark and was worth $35,000 to the winner Jorgensen.

All in all this has little to do with poker except these two friends had fun at the expense of some fans who paid $40 dollars to watch the fight.  The next fan proposed fight without headgear should be between some other bad boys of poker.  Some fans would like to see some of these players get their clock rung.

On a more serious and lucrative front, the London Poker Circuit, , has announced that a series of three poker tournaments will be held between March 16th and November 11th, 2009.  These events will be held at three very fine London hotels in Mayfair, Convent Garden and Kensington.   Gus Hansen the poker pro, who never saw a starting hand he could not try to play, was the loser in an exhibition fight. The hotels are the Westbury Mayfair, the Kingsway Hall Hotel Convent Garden and the Kensington Close Hotel and Spa.  This is the first such event at these hotels and is further proof of the growing popularity of the game of poker and in particular, tournament poker.

The European tournaments are growing in player count and prestige as evidenced by the players at the latest events on the European Poker Tour.  There has even been some idle talk of comparing some of these events with the WSOP from Las Vegas.  The WSOPE comes to mind in these talks.  Maybe this will be true, some day, but for now most poker fans would not believe in true equality.

The quality of the players from Europe, in particular England and the Scandinavian countries is impressive as seen in the final tables of many of the TV tournaments.   Some of these players are legends in their own country and are now making a name for themselves on US television.  Poker is popular all over the world and universally played with an avid conviction.  It's hard to regulate an endeavor that has such International presence with such a loyal following.  The US Congress is finding this out with the ignorant UIGEA law, may it soon rest in peace.
