The story behind the world-famous PokerStars is indeed a true rags to riches story, and the family that owns and operates the said online poker room never thought that the simple beginnings of their site will become a huge success that it is now considered as one of the biggest and most popular online poker room not only in the World Wide Web but in the whole world as well.
The Proud Owner
The proud owner of the most famous online poker site is the Schienberg family from Toronto, Canada.
It was ten years ago that the father, not knowing that much of the online gambling industry, decided to build a company by creating and designing his own website that caters to online players. He was just your regular Joe but has the skills of an excellent programmer who knows what he is doing when it comes to computers, and just like everybody else, he is hoping to make some money by putting up his own business in the Internet, and so, the online poker site was developed in his own basement.
In September of 2001, the online poker site was launched, but it was in December of the same year that the site began to offer cash games. Because of the great online poker tournaments that PokerStars was offering, it soon became a big hit. Little did the creator of PokerStars know that his small business would give him big returns that its market value is now estimated to be in the 2 billion-dollar range.
With two grown sons helping him in the business and the fact that the online poker site is open to new things like the many poker tournaments that it hosts, there can be no stopping the growth of PokerStars.
A Role Model
The growth and success of the PokerStars has prompted others to start their own online poker businesses, but it can be said that no other company has beaten the record that PokerStars holds in terms of popularity and reliability as well as in the number of players and the revenues the site receives. Furthermore, the fact that the online poker industry is already saturated with many online casinos and online poker sites makes it all the more difficult for smaller companies to compete for their share of the target market, especially since the big guys, particularly PokerStars, have already created big names for themselves.
Today, PokerStars has much under its belt.
