Among the many poker pros that participated in London's PKR Heads-Up Grand Slam, it was Vladimir «Beyne» Geshkenbein who walked away with the grand prize that amounted to $120,000. But before he bagged the title and the grand prize of the said event, he also won the APPT Macau High Roller Event, which took place last September.
In an interview, Geshkenbein talks about the tournament as well as some tips on how to play poker and win the game.
On the Tournament
When asked about the tournament, Geshkenbein admitted that he enjoyed the London tournament better than the EPT. He went on to add that the atmosphere and the people were great, especially since he already knows many of the players from previous poker events.
On His Strategy
The London event had an open bar, and Geshkenbein admitted that he was drunk, but not drunk enough not to remember a good poker strategy that he learned from PokerStrategy, which he is a member of. Since he could not really focus on the values of the chips that he was holding due to the fact that he was inebriated, he applied one of the strategies he learned from PokerStrategy's site. The lesson, he says, asks that you ask yourself these questions «How much do you bet? And why?» before you place your bets, especially if you are uncertain, and since he was drunk that time, what he did was to bet half of his chips.
Geshkenbein was also asked about the characteristics that make up a good poker player, and his answer was very simple.
Although he knows that it will take a lot to reach the level of being a good poker player, the best strategy that one could employ in an always changing environment is to adjust to the situation. This means that you have to adjust your playing style depending upon the characteristics of your opponents. He says that ABC poker no longer works, and that it will be very important to adapt to the game and your opponents. Furthermore, he also states that level-thinking plays an integral part in your poker strategy, especially since fatigue and the stress that one experiences when on a tilt can make the player's game harder.
If you want to improve your poker strategy, it would not hurt you to enroll in one of the sties that teach poker. This way, you get to learn more about new strategies from poker pros.
