It takes quite a while for a game to build up a following.  Holdem exploded when the tournaments began showing up on TV.  If other games had TV tournaments they would develop a following also.

Another offshoot of the Holdem craze is the numerous satellite tournaments that are held at many online poker rooms.  These tournaments give players the chance to gain entry into some of the more prestige's poker tournaments.

One thing is for sure popularity of Poker has never been as high as it is now.
