Avid fans of poker from all over the world will surely be glad to know that the World Series of Poker and the ESPN has signed a new deal, and that is to be partners for seven more years in broadcasting and bringing to the rest of the world the biggest poker tournament. The announcement to broadcast the WSOP tournaments through its 2017 world series will formally be given this Tuesday.
Assuring Poker Players and Fans
It was in 2003 that ESPN started airing the major poker tournament of WSOP, and because of its complete success, it became the home of the WSOP tournament yearly. Right now, the cable network is going to finish its current contract, with the new contract beginning this 2011. ESPN promises the same coverage is going to be given to WSOP during the seven-year contract, so avid fans of the series can expect 32 hours of nothing but aspiring and professional poker players battling it out at the felt table to try to win one of the poker world's biggest prizes.
Last year, 2008, ESPN's coverage of the WSOP tournament received a 0.9 rating, with the cable network bringing the popular casino game to almost a million homes, giving them a rough estimate of 1.13M viewers watching the said event. The ratings are growing each year that ESPN covers WSOP as more and more people are taking an interest in the said tournament.
A Win-Win Situation
It really is a win-win situation for both these big organizations. ESPN is getting a higher rating because of the growing fame of the WSOP and more investors and endorsers cashing in on its popularity, and, at the same time, WSOP is also getting the same benefits. Because of the continued coverage and the continued patronage of the major poker tournament, increased profits are sure to be theirs, and with the assurance that ESPN is going to broadcast WSOP for seven more years, viewers are assured to see their favorite poker pros battle it out at the felt table.
The 2009 WSOP Tournament
